Point Pleasant Beach Boat Show Press Release
A major nautical event will be held in Point Pleasant on Saturday, September 19,
2009, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Beautifully restored wooden boats, both sail and power,
will be on display throughout the day in the water and on land. Many of the boats in the
water may be boarded with the permission of the owner, including the impressive 1929
72 foot "Cigarette" which was owned and restored in Point Pleasant by the late Jerry
Bass. About 60 boats attended last year's show.
The event is the 2th Annual Boat Show of the Barnegat Bay Chapter of the
Antique and Classic Boat Society (ACBS) to be held adjacent to the New Jersey Museum
of Boating at Johnson Brothers Boat Works, 1800 Bay Avenue, Point Pleasant. !\ special
feature of the show will be the Family Boat Building. Four 9 \t2 foot Towboats will be
built by four families, using kits provided by Tuckerton Seaport. These attractive 80
pound Tuckerton Crab Skiffs will be constructed in one day, guided by experienced boat
builders. Families interested in future boatbuilding activities can sign up at the show.
There will also be some antique and classic automobiles on hand. Many vendors or old
nautical equipment, marine paintings, nautical jewelry, boat models, and numerous
marine related items will be at the; event.
The New Jersey Museum of Boating will be open all day tor viewing the new
exhibit of Henry Hudson's discovery of Barnegat Bay. Many boats and memorabilia
fJ'om the early days of boating in New Jersey will be on display.
Boats in the show will be evaluated by eXperienced judges and awards will be
presented to the boat owners by Chapter President Stu Sherk in a ceremony at 3 :00 pm
under the tent. Food and ice cream are available. Admission and parking are froe, with
volunteers on hand to direct traffic. Be sure to spend some time at the annual Seafood
Festival in Point Pleasant on the same day, but leave plenty of time for the Boat Show.
